Post 1999 C230-Engine rough at idle in drive (fine in neutral)

It sounds very rough when I start it (much rougher in cold weather) and is very rough at idle.  In neutral, it is fine/quiet even when cold so only gets loud in drive at idle.  In drive, loud and rough.  Once I drive about 15 minutes, it quiets down and is fine and once I accelerate, it is fine even when cold.  Otherwise it runs great.  76K so not high miles.  Any ideas?  Mass air flow sensor?

yes, it could be your MAF sensor, fuel filter or fuel injectors....also, check the fuel pump (you can clean it out ).

Good Luck!

It was the mass air flow sensor and engine mounts were letting the engine shake, also changed the air filter and fuel injector to be safe.  Runs as smooth as the day I bought it now.  Thanks for all the help, you guys were correct on the MAF sensor, sorry it took me so long to get back on here and update.

its funny how the MAF is one of the smallest Mercedes parts, yet it is responsible for so much
