300e four matic does not work

Post 300e four matic does not work 

I have a 92 300e 4matic that the 4matic light came on and I had to disable the all wheel drive to not damage(says the manual) Curious if anyone knows if the reservoir mounted on the drivers inner fender has anything to do with it. The fluid level is low, not sure what type of hydraulic fluid to put in. Or any other suggestions. Thanks
