E320 CDI AVANTGARDE AIR MASS FAULT
Hi, Well I have had the inlet manifold valves made from a substance called 'polypenko' (German resin compound fantastic stuff and easy to machine) the new inlet manifold valves are working just great. Problem now is that the engine will run fine for approximately 5 miles and then switch into limp mode. When diagnostic eqpt hooked up it is reading air mass, a new air flow sensor has been fitted. When the fault is cleared the engine runs fine for a while then throws up the air mass fault, this is really baffling so please anyone who has a suggestion I welcome your help as someone out there must be able to shine some light on the cause of my problem.
Dashboard is now good, LED read outs cheap inexpensive repair also have a man who can repair SLK's console lights but look out the oval tubes retail at £100 each that's $200 apeice.

maybe you need to adapt or initialize the airmass sensor since it a new one. only the star diagnostic computer can do this.

Firstly thanks for your help as I am stumped, in response to your request for additional information I hope the following helps:
The car is an E class 320 cdi diesel, manufactured in 1999, registered in 2000 (UK), Avantgarde estate (5 door), the VIN/chasis no is WDB2102262B055050 the engine number is 613961 and the cylinder capacity is 3222cc.
Thanks for your assistance I really do appreciated any help, the diagnostic equipment used to date is BOSCH does that offer any additional clues?

did you check the wires, possible loose connections? these are directly connected to the cdi control modules. check the wiring diagrams and the location of CDI control unit in case you need it:

N3/9 is the CDI control unit. the wires coming from the sensor is on the connector 4 of the CDI control unit. be careful on doing these stuff coz this might cause serious trouble if improperly handled OR just bring the car on a good service center.
good luck. update is all we need here.

Well thanks guys with your help my E class is back on the road and running as smooth as silk once more.
The problem has turned out to be a defective glow plug (heater plug) welded into the head and had stopped working. It had to be drilled out, the thread retapped and new glow plugs fitted.
Then reprogrammed using MB software (though NOT A MAIN DEALER, as they are HIGHWAYMEN who just hold genuine honest owners to ransom) but a really smart switched on guy with access to the software. Then the fault code for the glow plug wiped from the memory, the air mass fault reset and hey presto one fixed E class 210 avantgarde cdi. It's always easy after the event and electrics are a pain but I must say the mechanics of the car are good just glitches a problem and those expensive replacement main dealer parts.
So If anyone needs inlet manifold valves please let me know it is not a problem.
The inlet valves are apparantly known by M/Benz as a faulty part (MB know this but won't own up as they can sell inlet manifolds at exorbitant costs, when all that is needed is a simple valve! How good is that for recycling, saving the planet, owner satisfaction, customer retention, no wonder Toyota are kicking their ass) and I do not like being ripped off that's why I am sharing my experiences with you all.
Thanks guys I appreciate your world wide help, if only the MB dealers were able to be as helpful.
