Post How to refill transmission fluid

Hi all,

Recently I had to do some radiator work and lost a little transmission fluid thru the cooling lines. Does anybody happen to know how to refill the oil? How do I check the level? I understand there's a filter for tranny, does that need to be changed? Thanks.

The transmission should be at a normal operating temperature, so you warm up the car first. Make use of the tranny dipstick. You just follow the what is stated on the refill capacity on your car's manual. And yes the filter needs to be changed as well.

Post Changing Tranny fluid

I have a 1999 S-Class and just had my fluid changed yesterday. These tranny's are supposed to be "no-service" trannies, but I don't believe it. My previous S had a slip in the Trans sometime, so I changed the fluid and it fixed the problem. You can buy an aftermarket dipstick, since the car doesn't have a dipstick for the trans and that will help to determine how much fluid to add. The shop that I sued for the service, has a flushing system that adds detergent of some kind to the oil and cleans the transmission. It then purges it and refills with synthetic transmission fluid. It turned out very good and I notice a difference int the smoothness of the tranny.
