Hydraulic pumps in convertible tops - CLK 320

Post Hydraulic pumps in convertible tops - CLK 320

I just spent several hundred dollars replacing one of the hydraulic pump assemblies on my '99 CLK320. The mechanic complained that he couldn't find any repair kit available...so he had to buy the whole part from Mercedes. He also warned me that other pumps in the system might fail...in their order of weakness. He went on to say that he could simply replace the little seal itself (o-ring, seal, washer, whatever) and save me lots of money; BUT HE COULDN'T FIND A SOURCE FOR SUCH REPAIR PARTS. Does anybody have any ideas? It would apparently save lots of money if we could simply "rebuild" such parts. (Naturally, Mercedes likes to sell whole assemblies...for hundreds of dollars...instead of letting a mechanic rebuild them.)

Post hydraulic pumps

I received your question "hydraulic pump for the brake?" No. I didn't make myself clear enough. I'm talking about the several pumps that operate the convertible top mechanism. Sorry I was unclear. One of the pumps on my '99 clk320 went bad, requiring an expensive complete pump assembly. My very experienced mechanic thought he could simply locate some kind of repair kit (with a seal, o-ring, whatever) so that he could simply repair the pump...which was ok, except for the seal leak. Since this is liable to happen again (with other pumps down the line becoming leaky), some kind of "repair" would be immensely less costly than "complete assembly replacement," even though Mercedes would much rather sell entire pumps. It would even be interesting to find a source that sells "rebuilt" pumps, which should be much less expensive. I'd appreciate any ideas that you might have. Thanks!
