Post Can't accelerate past 45 mph

I have had a problem with the check engine light being on for months on a 1998 C280.  The codes I get are P0170 (Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank 1) and P0173 (Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank 2).  If I do a freeze frame using the OBT II scanner I get the following:
Calc Load % = 47.4
Coolant Temp = 190
MAP (in.hg) = 25.4
Engine RPM = 1625
Vehicle Speed = 22
ST FTRM1% = -2.3
LT FTRM1% = 28.8
ST FTRM2% = 0.0
LT FTRM2% = 30.4

Another big hint regarding what the problem may be is this.  If I floor the accelerator leaving a traffic light the car will accelerate to 45 mph, the tach will get to 4800 rpm, and the transmission will not shift out of second gear.  It just hangs there at that speed and rpm until I let off the accelerator and allow the transmission to shift to third gear, then the car will accelerate normally.

Does anyone have any suggestions what may be going on with this car?

I have had the same issue until I used that mass air sensor cleaner, if it does not work, You will need a new one.....IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES......same errors, same solution.

Mechefan, so you also had this situation where the transmission doesn't shift like I described and the MAS cured the problem?  I don't understand how the MAS could cause this shifting problem.  I already tried cleaning it, but no change.  I guess I'm really asking if there could be any other part causing this before I spend the money to replace the MAS.

best thing to do is check the fault code and be certain.

Windz, the only fault codes I get are the ones I listed (Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank 1 & 2).  Or are you talking about having a Star Diagnostics done to read more information?

I finally found some information on how to check the function of the MAS.  It checks good.  So now I'm back to the beginning and looking for what else can cause a Fuel Trim Malfunction fault.......

other causes could be air leak, fuel injectors of diaphragm-type pressure regulating valve or worse... engine wear. there are series of test before making a conclusion. locate the air leak if theres any and make a compression test.
