HI I TOOK MY ML OUT THE OTHER DAY OUT OF TOWN. ON THE WAY BACK IT DIDNT WANT TO GO IN TO TOP GEAR COULD ANY ONE TELL ME WHY???

IS IT CAUSE THE OIL IS LOW OR IS THERE SOME OTHER FAULT. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

2nd and reverse gear is available- electrical fault or stucked to 3rd- mechanical/hydraulic fault. if it does, your tranny is on limphome mode. a safety feature and will be triggered if the control unit detected a critical fault  thus protecting the tranny from further damage. traction control system fault, loose connection at the ETC and ran out of ATF are one of its possible causes. check the connector and the ATF level. pour just enough(dont overfill it) and have someone hook a scanner to erase the fault or just try to remove the battery for control unit reset. if this doesn't help, find someone who can read the fault codes for you. goodluck and please keep us updated.

Hi thanks for the advice. I rang a friend at mercedes and he told me that the gearbox seal splits and the oil goes through the wiring loom in to the ECU and trips that out.

They may call the the M Class back and fix the problem or you can do it your self as its only a seal that needs changing and only cost £7.00+vat not bad.

To be honest might just do it might self hope this helps everyone else with the same problem.
