Post over revved 1995 E300 

accidentally downshifted on highway and overrevved my 1995 E300.  run fine cold but after 30 minutes of driving loses power and won't go over 45 mph.  some white smoke coming out of tailpipe.  loacal dealer does not have an experience mechanic for this model.  Any basic suggesitons on what may have been damaged?
