 Starting problem on 1979 450sl
Well, I think I have the oil leaking behind the guage problem fixed. Now I need to find out why my car takes so long to start whether its cold or when it is hot (or warmed up), When I turn the key, the motor just turs and turns till finally it turns over. This happens constantly. If I turn the car off off and then try and restart it, again right away it will just turn, turn and turn like it wants to but them after about a minute or minute and a half, it will finally start. Any suggestions will be grealy appreciated please!

I went online to "Autozone", they said I do not have a crankshaft position sensor. Then he said maybe its my hot or cold valve or sensor. What do you think??

 1979 450SL STARTING PROBLEMS
HEY SUPERTECH, I KNOW IT TOOK AWHILE TO REPLY, & I AM SORRY, BUT I HOPE YOU CAN GIVE ME AN IDEA ON HOW TO REPAIR MY CAR. I BOUGHT NEW BOSCH SPARK PLUGS, BUT I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME STARTING PROBLEM. I REALLY BELIEVE IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING WITH E FUEL. ( IT EVEN LOOKS LIKE IT IS GETTING A GOOD AMOUNT OF FUEL AT THE INJECTORS) WHEN WE SPRAY QUIK START AT THE JETS, SHE WILL START RIGHT AWAY, BU T WITH JUST STARTING NORMALLY IT WILL TAKE APPROX. 16-18 SECONDS BEFORE THE MOTOR WILL TURN OVER COMPLETLEY.
ANY HELP FROM YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
THANKS,

hmm.. it could be a bad fuel pump relay.. also try to check the ignition control module. it could also because of a bad mercedes starter. check on these possibilities and give us an update..

try to perform a spark test to determine if the ignition system is delivering sparks to the spark plugs. a spark shows the ignition system is probably okay, although fouled spark plugs or out of timing ignition could cause the failure to start. however, the most likely to cause is no fuel or trouble in the fuel system. the fuel system is not delivering a combustible air-fuel mixture. worse case scenario, are improper operation of the valves, loss of compression. you should check the pressure of the fuel. give us update on this one.
hope this helps...

Well it seems that there wasn't enough pressure from my fuel pump to the injectors. Replaced the fuel pump(new one has about 80psi), the old one maybe 10-15 psi maybe. The salesmasn at the parts store said only Honda and 79 450 sl requires a high pressure output. I don't know for sure, all I know is it starts up alot quicker than before, now I just need to adjust the ideling, someone said there are two adjustments, I've seen whee one is but not the other. So to those of you theat responded Thank You!
