Post Trying to decide on ML320 CDI or not.

Hi everyone. I am a new member, and I am having some difficulties on deciding whether to go with a Mercedes or not. I have test driven every brand out there, and have found that the ML320, is the best riding and driving over all the rest. I have gone to all of the forums, car magazines, websites of consumer reporting agency, and have found the split to be 50/50, on how good a vehicle it is. All of the sites give rave reviews about the ride, and apparent quality, but the split comes on the reliability of the vehicle, and the brand. I plan on having this vehicle for a very long time, and to put well over 20k miles a year on it. I do not want to have it in the shop all the time.

Please help me to make a good decision. If you have owned earlier model M-Class vehicles, and now own a 2006 or 2007, your input would be greatly appreciated. Is the unreliabilty or bad press true, or is it unfounded? How often will it be in the shop for things other than regularly scheduled maintenance? Are there costs that I will incur that is not covered under the warranty?

I should also add that I am in a family of Lexus owners, but do not like the ride of the baby Lexus, nor would I be interested in driving one, even if I got it for free.

it has big concerns about the 722.9 transmission's seal ring but this has been resolved on the later productions and it will be under warranty. also, the WSS (weight sensing system) as part of the SRS (supplemental restraint system) has some issues too together with the COMAND. but all of these will be under warranty.

with W163's bad reputation, the makers of the W164's made a great improvement and i believe it raised it's level with the BMW X5 and the porsche cayenne.

goodluck with the ride and welcome to the forum.
